What is the Justice League?
God's call is clear throughout the scriptures to come alongside the oppressed and impoverished (Zechariah 7:10, Psalm 82:3-4, Isaiah 58:10, Matthew 25:35 are a few of many examples) If you are concerned about the areas of poverty, hunger, healthcare, racial dialogue, equality in education or the numerous other facets of Biblical Justice, then you should consider joining us.
So what exactly is "justice"?
That's a little tricky, because justice is one of those words that has several meanings. In this context, justice is restoring things to the way that they were created to be. It's a redemptive practice at its core. It's a work to align things in with the plans of The Justice. Justice engages individuals, but also addresses systemic roots and reforms these systems to get to the roots of injustice. Acts of justice align us with the needs of the Foreigner, the Fatherless, and the Widow...people on the margins of society that the Scriptures command us to actively share God's love with (Deuteronomy 10:17-18; 24:17-22; Luke 3:7-11; Psalm 146:9; James 1:27 are several of many examples) .
Who is the Justice League?
The Justice League is a group of diverse individuals with interests and expertise in a variety of areas. We represent many ages, vocations, and experiences but share a common passion for coming alongside the impoverished and un-empowered to live out Christ's love. You don't have to have any particular skill set to join; just a desire to be part of extending God's heart of justice to all.
What does the Justice League do?
We choose projects from the passions and interests that are represented by our League members and by our church body and work together to bring them a dream to reality. Current projects include the Food For Children Challenge and tutoring relationships with Oakwood Middle School and Middlebranch Elementary. Projects currently in the works are a community garden on First Friends property and a special banquet for the members of StreetLights (the church that meets at Refuge of Hope).
When does the Justice League meet?
We currently meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the coffee commons at First Friends. If you'd like to join us, please email Joel Daniel Harris (email@example.com
), to double check our meeting time and location.
