Local Outreach

From its beginnings in 1946 through to today and moving into the future First Friends has been active in the community. Countless children learn the  fundamentals of sport and life when they participate in our Sports Ministry programs. Adults continue to enjoy their sports in our adult sports and fitness programs.

Right from the start, First Friends and the Pregnancy Support Center have been working together to save Canton's unborn babies.  Back in 1984, FFC and High Mill church were the first sponsors of what was then called Crisis Pregnancy Support Center of Stark County. The center was located in our old building on 31st Street NW.  FFC continues to partner with PSC both financially and with prayer coverage. Today you can find our members at both of PSC's locations (22nd St NW and Cleveland Ave NW) teaching, counseling, praying and coming alongside women (and their partners) who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy.  If helping others choose life or heal from their past choices is important then this is the place for you!

Since 1986 Refuge of Hope has been providing a hot meal, a safe bed, help to start over, and the love of Christ with homeless men in Canton. It also provides food and guidance to poor and homeless women and children.  You will find FFC members volunteering in the kitchen and serving meals. There is a box at the FFC Welcome Center for food needs (see the bulletin for specifics). If you've helped with the hygiene kit drive in the past . . . Thank You!  If you like to cook, have a heart to help a man start over, or just want to offer an ear and a smile of encouragement after a hard day, the men at Refuge of Hope are waiting for you!

Young Life, Wyldelife, Campaigners, Camp! AAH memories for so many of us. The kids and the music may have changed but Young Life's commitment to bringing young people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ hasn't. From leading area clubs to running in the annual 5K fundraiser FFC members are involved in YL in many ways. So, if  U <3 kidz YL is 4 U! :D

To date Habitat for Humanity has built over 340 houses, creating homes for more than 1,500 individuals, the majority being children. This year our goal is to build approximately 25 houses; 6 in Massillon, but the majority right here in the City of Canton. We have approximately 39 families in various stages of our family services ministry. Through our program they are being taught financial planning through Financial Peace University, the dangers of predatory lending and basic home maintenance as well as the building skills they acquire through the sweat equity hours every member is required to fulfill prior to obtaining their house. As in Acts 6, we exist to implement the teachings of Christ our Savior in practical, tangible ways. We do this by working alongside the local body of Christ - His church - to be Christ's hands and feet. To find out more information or to get involved contact Habitat for Humanity!
